seismic interpretation and attributes study

Course Description:

This course provides an in-depth introduction to seismic interpretation, covering the
fundamental principles of seismic data acquisition, processing, and advanced seismic attribute
analysis. Participants will gain practical experience in interpreting seismic data for structural
and stratigraphic features, learning how to integrate seismic data with well logs for
comprehensive reservoir characterization. The course concludes with a final project where
participants apply their knowledge to real-world datasets, using emerging technologies and
advanced seismic attributes.

5 Days

  • Geophysicists
  • Geologists
  • Professionals involved in seismic data interpretation

Basic understanding of geology and geophysics

By the end of this course, participants will be able to

  • Explain the fundamentals of seismic data acquisition and the different types of seismic surveys (2D, 3D, 4D).
  • Understand seismic wave behavior, reflection principles, and key terminology in seismic interpretation.
  • Describe the seismic data processing workflow, distinguishing between pre-stack and post-stack processing.
  • Use noise reduction techniques to improve seismic data quality.
  • Identify and apply various types of seismic attributes, including amplitude, phase, and frequency.
  • Understand advanced seismic attributes such as Amplitude Versus Offset (AVO) and spectral decomposition.
  • Apply seismic attributes to improve interpretation accuracy in reservoir exploration and development.
  • Learn from real-world case studies where seismic attributes played a key role in successful projects.
  • Use seismic data to identify structural features like faults and folds, and stratigraphic elements like horizons and sequences.
  • Integrate seismic data with well log information for enhanced reservoir characterization and interpretation accuracy.
  • Understand the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in modern seismic interpretation.
  • Explore real-world applications of seismic interpretation in oil and gas exploration and production.
  • Work on a final project that involves interpreting a provided seismic dataset.
  • Present your findings, showcasing your ability to integrate seismic data, attributes, and well logs to create a comprehensive interpretation.

By the end of the course, participants will have practical experience in seismic interpretation and attribute analysis, equipping them with the skills necessary to apply these techniques in exploration, production, and reservoir characterization projects.
